Office of Sustainability Releases Earth Month Annual Progress Updates

In honor of Earth Month, the Office of Sustainability is proud to share with you the impactful work underway across the University to reduce our environmental impact under Plan 2030.

Columbia's academic breaks are not only looked forward to by Columbia's students, but Facilities and Operations as well.  While most are away, Facilities and Operations is able to perform a wide range of work as it has a smaller impact upon a less populated campus.

Facilities and Operations hosted a career fair to recruit diverse talent for all campuses.

A new Southeast Asian food concept under the culinary direction of esteemed celebrity chef Nils Noren has signed a lease with Columbia University to open a new restaurant in Morningside Heights.

The CU Grow Vendor Development program, one of many initiatives led by the CUFO group supporting the University’s comprehensive commitment to create and expand opportunities for minority-, women-, and locally-owned businesses (MWL), is recruiting for Cohort 7 which begins in February 2023.

The Columbia Facilities and Operations-led CU Grow Vendor Development Program, designed to help minority-, women- and locally owned (MWL) vendors grow their businesses, graduated its sixth cohort during a ceremony at Faculty House on December 12 – the first in person graduation since the beginning of the pandemic.

Twenty-six families that had previously resided in two New York City Housing Preservation and Development (HPD)-owned buildings in Manhattanville are now co-op shareholders in a newly constructed 42-unit building in Hamilton Heights. 

The disability access lift in the International Affairs Building received a Citation Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Westchester + Hudson Valley Chapter as part of their 2022 Design Awards ceremony.

Congratulations were in order for the 143 Facilities and Operations employees celebrating 10 years at Columbia University. 

Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUFO) joined with partners to deliver 150 pre-packed Thanksgiving meals on November 22 to five local senior homes in Harlem, including the Grant Houses Community Center, 3333 Broadway Apartments, PSS Manhattanville Senior Houses, Canaan Senior Service Center and Riverstone Senior Life Services.
