Convocation 2024: Navigating Campus

As we welcome a new class of undergraduate students to the Columbia community and celebrate them at Convocation, be aware of some changes when navigating campus on Sunday, August 25 and Monday, August 26.

There will be no foot traffic between the upper and lower campuses or across College Walk on Sunday, August 25 from 4:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Monday, August 26 from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Campus can be entered via the following gates during these times (CUID card or authorized guest QR code required for entry):

Lower campus access

  • College Walk at 116th Street and Broadway
  • College Walk at 116th Street and Amsterdam Avenue

Upper campus access

  • Earl Hall Gate (117th Street and Broadway)
  • Northwest Corner Building at 120th Street and Broadway (CUID swipe access between 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., 7 days a week)

Other important notes:

  • Disability access between upper and lower campuses via the Kent Hall elevator will remain available. In addition, an accessible shuttle bus will be available during these times to facilitate access from 116th Street and Broadway to the accessible campus access points at the Northwest Corner building and at 116th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. The College Walk elevator at Dodge Hall will not be accessible.
  • The Wien Gate on 116th Street between Amsterdam and Morningside Drive will remain available.
  • Convocation attendees – including students, staff, and guests – must enter lower campus for access to the event. There will be no access to Convocation from upper campus.
  • Anyone entering lower campus who is not attending Convocation must travel south alongside Hamilton or Pulitzer Halls to reach their destination.
