Howell Jordan and Henry Clemente represented CUFO at the gala, hosted at Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers. Howell Jordan, Supervisor Manhattanville Campus Operations, is a U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander, having served 6 years active duty and currently in his 22nd year of reserve duty. Henry Clemente, Head Cleaner Morningside Campus Operations, served as a Corporal N.B.C. N.C.O. in the U.S. Army Reserves. Jordan and Clemente are also members of the CUFO Equity & Inclusion Council. Their attendance was sponsored as part of the E&I Council’s recognition of staff veterans.

The event featured remarks from School of General Studies Dean Lisa Rosen-Metsch, GS ’90, University President Minouche Shafik, as well as Walter and Shirley Wang, University Trustee. The Wangs were honored with the 2023 Peter J. Awn Lifetime Service Award for their gracious support of Columbia’s Yellow Ribbon Program.

“The Military Ball was wonderful. I had the privilege of meeting President Shafik and other inspiring student veterans, faculty, staff and deans. It was an honor to represent Facilities and Operations."

Henry Clemente

Jordan reflected on the evening and opportunity to spend time with University students and colleagues, connecting on a professional and personal level. He found it inspirational to learn more about General Studies initiatives in support of veterans.

“What a happy occasion to eat, drink and celebrate among fellow veterans of the Columbia community.”

Howell Jordan

The Military Ball is hosted by the School of General Studies, the Military Veterans of Columbia University (Milvets), the Columbia Center for Veteran Transition and Integration, and Columbia Veterans. Proceeds from the event support academic and career programming for veterans.
