More than 700 students from Upper Manhattan received books, pens, pencils, rulers, crayons, notebooks, backpacks, calculators, binders, and folders to help them prepare for the 2022-23 school year. The event also featured family programming and other community resources to celebrate a new school year safely. Some of these offerings were hair braiding for girls by La Gazelle Hair Salon in Harlem and Balloon sculptures by Sheila Jordan Arts and Entertainment.

Skanska, the construction manager for The Forum and a building infrastructure project at the Nash building, Plaza Construction, the construction manager for the new tennis center at Baker Athletics Complex, donated approximately 200 backpacks filled with supplies for the event. Staff from the Department of Public Safety and the Construction Business Initiatives led Facilities and Operations’ efforts in support of the Back to School event.
