Introducing Gerry McGillian, New Vice President for Operations

Executive Vice President for Facilities and Operations David M. Greenberg introduced Gerry McGillian as the new Vice President for Operations on Monday.

February 18, 2019

Starting February 25, Gerry is responsible for overseeing the operations and maintenance of the University’s utilities, energy management, building operations, and custodial services to maintain all academic, administrative, and residence hall buildings as well as campus grounds for the Morningside Heights and Manhattanville campuses, Baker Athletics Complex and Nevis Laboratories.

Gerry joins Columbia most recently from the University of Chicago, where he held a position overseeing the operations and maintenance at its 9.5 million square-foot campus. Prior to that, Gerry worked at the University of Pennsylvania as the Director of Facility Trades, where he managed the operation and maintenance of various building systems, central utilities, and grounds.

Gerry’s past accomplishments include identifying campus energy cost saving measures, creating new processes to speed the work order cycle, and developing a strategic plan to reduce the University of Chicago’s carbon footprint. This experience will allow Facilities and Operations to continue and expand upon the progress within its operations, improving sustainability, upgrading the central energy plant, creating efficiency and savings in energy purchasing, enhancing the experience for the Columbia community, and more.
