Procedure for Shipping Packages that do not fit inside Campus Mailboxes

An important message from the Columbia University Public Safety & Mail Services Teams

February 21, 2018

Recently, several packages were found left beside U.S. Postal Service, Fedex, UPS, or Administrative Mail mailboxes around the Morningside campus, specifically outside of Low Library and Wien Hall. Although it appeared that these packages were intended for mail carriers to pick up, Public Safety must consider any unattended packages as suspicious and a potential safety hazard.

Please note that all package carriers will only ship packages that fit inside of their mailboxes. Packages that are too large to fit inside of a mailbox must be taken to a post office or shipping facility in order to be processed and shipped.

If you find that a mailbox on campus is full, or that your package will not fit inside of the mailbox, please utilize one of these alternative locations:

  • US Postal Service: 534 West 112th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. (212) 864-2457.
  • UPS: 603 West 115th Street, between Broadway and Riverside Drive. (212) 865-9601.
  • FedEx: 600 West 116th Street, between Broadway and Claremont Avenue. (212) 749-3515.
  • Columbia University Administrative Mail: Service Building, Room 101 (Schermerhorn Building, 2nd floor). (212) 854-6576.

Following this process will help ensure that your packages are delivered successfully and will assist us in maintaining the safety of the Columbia Community. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
