Columbia University's Carman Basement Lounge renovation has been selected to appear as an Outstanding Design in the August 2013 American School & University Educational Interiors Showcase, a competition honoring education interiors excellence. The lounge was designed by AARRIS ATEPA Architects, a local/certified Women and Minority Business Enterprise, (WMBE).
This year, the panel of Educational Interiors Showcase judges selected 80 projects to be featured in the August issue of American School & University. The complete list of 2013 projects selected for publication is posted on the SchoolDesigns.com site.
Nicole Hollant-Denis, principal of AARRIS Architects, says that the Carman Hall lounge project was a lifeline for her five-person firm, which like many design studios both big and small, has struggled through the recession and economic downturn. "This was a make or break year for us," she explains, "and so it is a great opportunity."
