Law School Façade Update

Façade repair work has been taking place at Jerome Greene Hall (the Law School building) since August, required as part of the NYC Department of Buildings Façade Inspection and Safety Program. During the regular and ongoing repair work this morning, a section of the limestone fin façade near the 7th floor at the south elevation became loose and wedged against an adjacent façade fin.

As a safety precaution, adjacent interior spaces on the south side of the building were vacated and closed, and the building’s front entrance and sidewalk on 116th Street were also closed. FDNY responded and stabilized the dislodged façade piece until it can be removed safely by the general contractor. The façade piece will be removed pending the arrival of a crane and boom lift.

The main entrance to Jerome Greene Hall and a section of sidewalk on the north side of 116th Street between Amsterdam and Morningside Drive will remain closed as a precaution until the façade piece is removed. In addition, the sidewalk shedding around the building helps protect pedestrians and surrounding property from potential falling debris associated with the façade project.
