Seizing on the self-improvement focus a new year can bring, Columbia University Facilities and Operations Human Resources (CUFO HR) hosted a week of in-person professional development workshops open to all staff. Sessions focused on a range of topics including strategic use of AI, public speaking, prioritizing well-being, and using Columbia’s vast array of resources to the fullest. CUFO HR tapped experts from Facilities and Operations and across the University to present workshops.

As the largest administrative department at Columbia University, Facilities and Operations has over 2,000 staff members and operates essential services 24/7. To reach as many staff as possible, CUFO HR staggered sessions to capture staff from multiple shifts and campuses. Over the course of the week, 158 staff members participated in at least one workshop.

In the spirit of commitment to continuous learning and growth, CUFO HR will offer professional development opportunities throughout the year including a six-week Emerging Leaders program to encourage innovative projects among mid-level staff, an eight-week Management Development course, and other supplementary workshops. CUFO HR’s overarching goal is to equip employees with the tools and knowledge they need to excel in their support of the Columbia community.
