As part of our mission to maintain a safe, beautiful and functional campus environment, Columbia University Facilities (CUF) manages a wide array of renovation and improvement projects for existing buildings both on and off campus. While construction activity is a year round process, a significant portion of our capital construction program takes place during the summer months, when the reduced campus population makes it logistically possible to complete more work.
CUF is currently in the process of finalizing our summer 2007 construction program. I am writing to urge you to inform us of any new projects that are not already part of our program. Working with a complete inventory of summer projects will allow us to secure the required construction trade services and coordinate the internal staff resources necessary to ensure the timely completion of your projects.
To initiate a project, please submit a "Construction Project Request" from our Web site at http://www.cuf.columbia.edu/ or email us at [email protected]. Your request should identify the purpose and need of the project, proposed space or location, project funding, desired schedule, special requirements or considerations, and a general scope of work. We ask that you make every effort to submit the project request by February 16th, so that we can ensure appropriate planning and staffing.
For your convenience, a "Client Guide to Initiating and Managing Projects" will soon be sent to academic and administrative clients. This guide is designed to provide an overview of the University's capital project process. In addition, our Web site contains a link to our "Project Delivery Guide", a more detailed version of the capital project process.
The construction program for summer 2007 is already shaping up to be even busier than 2006, as we have over $46 million for projects already identified. The success of this plan is dependent on considerable early planning and management, and only through close coordination and teamwork with you.
