As spring arrives, we are enthusiastic to share information with you on upcoming bicycle-friendly workshops, events, and activities at the University that encourage bicycling as a healthy and sustainable travel option for the Columbia community.

NEW BICYCLE INFRASTRUCTURE

Transportation Website

In 2015 Columbia's Transportation website became Columbia's central information point for multi-modal travel options at Columbia, this includes important information for being a cyclist at Columbia. See all your Columbia travel options.

Zagster Bike Share

Beginning Monday, April 4th, all Columbia members; students, faculty and staff will have access to a bicycle 24/7. Columbia is happy to announce that Zagster bike share will begin at Morningside campus and grow to Manhattanville campus later in 2016. Stay up-to-date on Zagster.

New Bicycle Parking Enclosure at Wien Courtyard

Thanks to the successful pilot of the Grove bicycle enclosure, a new bicycle enclosure was installed in Wien Courtyard, Morningside campus. Beginning May 2nd, 2016, the gate lock will be activated and all users will need to have registered their bicycle with Public Safety before signing up to activate your CUID for enclosure access. Zagster Bike Share Launch

Come see Columbia's new bike share option launch. Wednesday, April 6, 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM at the Sundial on College Walk, Morningside campus.

Ride Your Bike to Campus Days

Mark your calendar for Ride Your Bike to Campus Day. Columbia members receive free bicycle tune-ups, meet other cyclists, bike registration and more. Ride your bike to campus and get involved on these dates and locations:

  • Morningside campus:Low Plaza, Wednesday, April 13, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Medical Center:in front of 650 W 168th Street, Friday, April 15, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Medical Center:in front of 650 W 168th Street, Friday, April 22, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This will be a special Earth Day event!

Participate in the National Bike Challenge

Thanks to 2015's Columbia University National Bicycle Challenge participants. Together we've logged over 5,000 miles.2016's Bike Challenge kicks off on Sunday May 1st and runs through the end of September. If you're not already registered - sign up here for free. Show some school spirit while you log your miles! - once you're registered, be sure to add the Columbia University team as your School affiliation.

Log your miles manually or sync with one of the three apps: Strava, MapMyRide or Endomondo. As you log miles and earn points, you can see where you stack up on the leaderboards with other participants across the country. UPCOMING WORKSHOPS

Bicycling Street Skills

Bicycling Street Skills is an off-bike, interactive presentation offered by Bike New York, covering the essentials of urban street cycling for all riders, including those relatively new to city cycling, those returning to cycling from a long hiatus, and those who want to be more confident cycling on busy streets. This 90-minute class will provide concrete examples of city cycling scenarios and will discuss how best to handle them to enjoy stress-free rides.

Traffic Skills 101

Traffic Skills 101 class, for adults and mature teens, combines the classroom setting of our Street Skills Class with the on-bike practice and city street experience of our Street Skills Ride. This day-long comprehensive class covers the rules of the road and the rights and responsibilities of bike riders and combines that knowledge with the on-bike skills you need to travel on city streets with confidence and competence. For online registration and more details of this class, see the schedule below. This class will be facilitated by Bike New York.
