Public Safety’s Award Recipients Help Keep Campus Safe
On Thursday, February 21, 2013 over 50 people gathered in Low Library for Public Safety's annual Promotion, Awards, and Recognition Ceremony.
Kenneth Finnegan, Director of Investigation and Technology Projects, welcomed attendees and introduced the outstanding team members whose dedication and service help make Columbia's campus safe. Finnigan was joined by Robert Kasdin, Columbia's Senior Executive Vice President, Joseph Ienuso, Executive Vice President of Columbia University Facilities, Jewelnel Davis, University Chaplain and Associate Provost, and representatives from the local NYPD precincts.

28 awards were given out for perfect attendance, highlighted by Security Officers Jaime Rodriguez, who has held a perfect attendance for 9 years, and Michael Layne, who has not missed a day of work for 12 years and counting!
Francisco Burgos, Superintendent, and Hector Gorritz, Resident Manager of Facilities Residential Operations, were honored for their outstanding dedication and service for helping make Columbia a safer campus. Burgos and Gorritz recently helped stop a robbery in the community by alerting Public Safety and other authorities.
Jim McShane, vice president for Public Safety, said, "Each person has adhered to Public Safety's principles of pride, professionalism, and service and has gone above the call of duty to make our campus safer. I am proud of this year's group and look forward to many more successes."
