On Saturday, June 13th Columbia University and NYC Parks held a Water Safety/Learn to Row event at Muscota Marsh Park in Inwood to provide rowing tips and kayak launch information for local residents. Over 30 community members attended and were able to learn from representatives of Columbia’s men’s and women’s varsity rowing teams, become familiar with the rowing equipment and meet the NYC Parks’ Chief Dock Master. The Chief Dock Master provided information on rowing/kayaking throughout the city and other “learn to row” programs in the neighborhood, and issued kayak permits. Attendees participated in a U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary (Flotilla 11) water safety presentation. Face painting was also available for children who attended.
