Edward McArthur, vice president of Planning and Capital Project Management, was a featured speaker at “Design Changes in a Post-Pandemic World,” a virtual event hosted by Commercial Observer on January 19.
At the event, McArthur participated on the panel titled “Building the Modern School Campus in 2021 and Beyond—How K-12 and University Campuses Will Be Forever Improved” to discuss rethinking building design with safety as a top priority. He noted the importance of creating flexible and adaptable spaces across campus and preparing for the possibility of future pandemics when planning new buildings.
Joining McArthur on the panel were Mark Kocent, university architect for the University of Pennsylvania; Juan Matiz, principal at Matiz Architecture & Design, whose firm performed renovations for Columbia including the Irving Institute for Cancer Dynamics and GSAS Writing Studio; and Suzanne Musho, vice president for capital planning and facilities management and chief architect at New York Institute of Technology. The panel was moderated by Robert Banner, partner at Ingram Yuzek Gainen Carroll & Bertolotti.
