Kim Chen, an associate director for project management at Columbia, was a featured panelist at a university construction event hosted by Professional Women in Construction held on January 24, 2017, at Steelcase Showroom in Columbus Circle.

At the event, Chen presented an overview of Columbia’s capital project principles at the historic Morningside campus, where projects often marry preserving the campus’s historic character with modern upgrades to meet the needs of world-class researchers.

Her presentation focused on initiatives and trends taking shape across the university, including building spaces to promote cross-disciplinary collaboration and foster technological innovation. Chen emphasized Columbia’s commitment to sustainability and diversity across its portfolio of projects, including the university’s long-standing commitment to achieving construction spend and workforce goals with minority-, women- and locally based businesses and individuals.

Chen was joined on the panel by Diana Allegretti, Cornell Tech; Gail Beltrone, Barnard College; and Linda Chiarelli, New York University. The panel was moderated by Joseph Mannino of Group PMX and former vice president of planning and capital project management at Columbia.
