Campus Preparations for University Commencement

As you may have already noticed, the annual process for preparing the campus for the University Commencement ceremony has begun.  Commencement 2010 will be held on Tuesday, May 18th, with most school ceremonies and events taking place in the days preceding University Commencement, during the period Friday, May 14 – Monday, May 17.

The major preparations for Commencement will begin on April 26 and will continue through the following week.  Since the preparation period overlaps with the last day of classes and beginning of reading week, some activities may potentially heighten the noise level around Low Plaza and the South Lawns, as well as in secondary locations like Ancell Plaza or Upper Campus.  As in past years, access through these areas may be more difficult during this period, but those involved in these preparations always try their best to avoid significant disruptions to the academic and business affairs of the University.  Some inconvenience is unavoidable if we are to be ready in time for the ceremonies, and I hope that you, your faculty and your students will bear with us as the preparations move forward.

Please feel free to circulate this reminder to your faculty and students so that they will be informed about the Commencement construction schedule.  Thank you.
