Local board game café Hex & Co. has signed a lease with Columbia University to relocate to a larger location at 2911 Broadway between W. 113th and 114th Streets. The new space consists of approximately 4,300 square feet, more than triple the size of its current location two blocks south.
Hex & Co. boasts an extensive collection of over 1000 board games available to play, ranging from classics to newer titles, and features a menu with over 40 varieties of beer, locally-roasted coffee, smoothies, pizza, sandwiches, sausages on pretzel buns, vegan pierogies, and more. In addition, Hex & Co. hosts weekly game nights, after-school programs and camps, including a summer camp program in partnership with Steep Rock Bouldering, a Columbia retail tenant at Columbia’s Manhattanville campus.
The signing of Hex & Co. is consistent with Columbia University’s long-standing retail approach which favors local businesses that bring a variety of amenities and experiences to the diverse Columbia community and surrounding neighborhood. Hex & Co. will join several other local businesses that have recently opened or signed leases in Columbia buildings in Morningside Heights and Manhattanville, including Dear Mama Coffee, Dos Toros, the Expat, Elysian Fields Café, and Wu and Nussbaum.
Jones Lang LaSalle’s Amy Zhen, Davie Berke, Claire Smith, and Patrick Smith brokered the deal on behalf of both Columbia and Hex & Co.
Hex & Co.’s new location at 2911 Broadway is anticipated to open in the first quarter of 2020.
