Upside Pizza and Softside Ice Cream have signed a lease as Columbia University’s newest retail tenants to join the Morningside Heights neighborhood. Both Upside Pizza and Softside will be located at 2878A Broadway in the former Liberty House space at the corner of 112th Street. The new pizza and ice cream shops are expected to open before the end of the year.
Founded in 2019, Upside Pizza is dedicated to perfecting the New York-style pizza slice through the use of high-quality ingredients, like freshly-made mozzarella cheese and natural fermented dough. The menu will include cheese, pepperoni, mushroom, spicy vodka, Sicilian pepperoni pies, and more. Upside Pizza’s Morningside pizza shop will be their fifth location in New York City.
Softside Ice Cream, also founded by Grossman, will accompany Upside Pizza in the space. Its menu will include soft-serve ice cream flavors such as chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and pistachio and dipped sauces.
Columbia University owns and manages retail space across the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses, and its long-standing retail approach favors businesses like Upside Pizza and Softside Ice Cream that bring a variety of amenities and experiences to the Columbia campus, the wider local community and visitors.
Winick brokered the deal on behalf of both Columbia, and Upside Pizza and Softside.
The new Upside Pizza and Softside locations join HIIT The Deck, FIELDTRIP, and Ban Ban Shop. as other Columbia University retail tenants to have recently opened or signed in the Morningside Heights and Manhattanville neighborhoods.
