FIELDTRIP, a fast casual rice bowl restaurant by James Beard Award-winning chef JJ Johnson, is the newest Columbia University retail tenant to open its doors in Morningside Heights. Patrons can visit FIELDTRIP beginning Wednesday, July 19, between 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. to celebrate its grand opening.
At its new location at 2913 Broadway (between 113th and 114th Streets), FIELDTRIP will offer a menu inspired by global flavors and techniques, with selections including cornmeal crusted market fish, seafood gumbo, braised beef, roast and fried chicken, veggie, salmon, and shrimp rice bowls. In addition to rice bowls, salad, quinoa falafel, crab pockets, sweet plantains, and more will be available.
In collaboration with Brooklyn-based designer Kamille Glenn, the 950-square-foot space pays homage to vintage inspired materials commonly found in Black-owned diners juxtaposed with playful and fun elements at the core of FIELDTRIP, featuring 14 indoor seats and 12 outdoor seats. This opening marks FIELDTRIP’s third location in New York City following its debut in Harlem in 2019.
Columbia University has a long-standing retail approach which favors local businesses that bring a variety of amenities and experiences to the diverse Columbia community and surrounding neighborhood. FIELDTRIP joins several other local businesses that have recently opened or signed leases in Columbia buildings in Morningside Heights and Manhattanville, including Ban Ban Shop, Miznon, Sapp’s Restaurant, Loco Coco, and Trudy's Ice Cream.
FIELDTRIP’s hours of operation are daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. To learn more, visit FIELDTRIP’s website and follow them on Instagram.
