South of the Clouds, a Yunnan-inspired Chinese noodle and fusion restaurant, is the latest Columbia University retail tenant to join the Morningside Heights neighborhood.
Located at 1187 Amsterdam Avenue (between 118th and 119th streets), South of the Clouds specializes in mixian from the Yunnan Province of China, featuring long rice noodles paired with mint, meat, seasonal vegetables, and spicy/sour flavor, served with or without chicken broth. In addition to rice noodle, South of the Clouds offers a variety of hot and cold appetizers, rice bowls, and desserts. The opening marks South of the Clouds’ third location.
Columbia University owns and manages retail space across the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses, and its long-standing retail approach favors businesses like South of the Clouds that bring a variety of amenities and experiences to the Columbia campus, the wider local community and visitors.
South of the Clouds joins several other local businesses that have recently opened or signed leases in Columbia buildings in Morningside Heights and Manhattanville, including The U Bar and Grill, Softside, Upside Pizza, Haji’s Deli, HIIT The Deck, and Method Collective.
