Columbia University Wins IIDA Interior Design Award for Li Lu Law Library

Columbia University was recognized by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) with an Interior Design Award for the Li Lu Law Library in Jerome Greene Hall. 

Facilities and Operations Human Resources (CUFO HR), in collaboration with Columbia University HR, led its third cohort through a six-week leadership development program.  

The University has committed $33 million to bring modern elevators, widened escalators, and other improvements to the station.

Facilities and Operations is performing a number of projects across the Morningside campus over the summer, including improvements to grounds, residence halls, and more.

Columbia University was awarded LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for 600 W. 125th Street, a 34-story residential building for graduate students and faculty on the southwest corner of 125th Street and Broadway that opened in 2024.

Columbia University Facilities and Operations hosted the Society of College and University Planning (SCUP) 2025 North Atlantic Symposium on June 13, bringing together over 150 professionals in the higher education design and construction industries.

Similar to previous years, Facilities and Operations is embarking on a wide range of projects, including residence hall upgrades, façade safety repairs, elevator modernizations, and more. 

The Construction Business Initiatives (CBI) team supports Columbia University by communicating with small and local businesses. The CBI team’s efforts introduce Columbia’s project management teams to new vendors that meet the University’s needs and help them thrive in our community. Below are a few highlights from their work this spring.

Facilities and Operations Human Resources (CUFO HR), in collaboration with Columbia University HR, led the second cohort of employees through a six-week leadership development program. Over the course of the program, each participant developed and presented a project idea to support efficiency and excellence in operations across CUFO. 

Benjamin (Ben) Kimura and Charles (Chuck) Robinson are the inaugural chairs of the Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUFO) LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group (ERG). In this interview, they discuss the importance of ensuring everyone feels welcome and comfortable being themself at work, as well as how the ERGs can support CUFO staff.  

New, on-street trash containers are part of the pilot program in Manhattan Community District 9, intended to increase street cleanliness by reducing black trash bags on streets and eliminating food source for rodents. 

Congratulations to our CUFO colleagues who are 2025 graduates! With degrees in Construction Administration, Mechanical Engineering, Strategic Communications, and more, this year’s graduates reflect the valuable diversity of thought and variety of functions CUFO staff bring to our institution. 

Departments Columbia Mail and Event Management come together with Undergraduate Student Life, ABC, and SGB leadership to help Recognized Student Groups store items over summer, saving students $ 

The Uptown Night Market takes place each Thursday from May 8 through June 12 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at space provided by Columbia University at the former Fairway parking lot at West 132nd Street and 12th Avenue.

New benches have been installed along the southwest plot on College Walk adjacent to Pulitzer Hall to add more casual seating areas. Following the bench installation, an assortment of seasonal flowers are being added to the landscaping around the benches.
