The New York State Association for Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (NYSAR3) awarded Columbia University with the Recycling Leadership Award for our efforts over the past year to promote recycling, composting, and other initiatives to reduce waste to landfill.

e’s BAR, an upscale, casual bar and restaurant, is the latest Columbia University retail tenant to be opening its door.  The opening marks the second location of e’s BAR, joining the original on the Upper West Side.

Public Safety recently published its Annual Security and Fire Safety Report for 2018.

We have just successfully completed a number of capital projects across the University in time for the new academic year (learn more about them at this page), and are already looking ahead to the Summer of 2019. As a reminder, NOW is the time to submit your project request particularly if it requires design services. Although September 1, 2018 was the deadline, we will continue to consider requests on a case-by-case basis until October 1. If your project does not require design services, the deadline is November 1, 2018

On Wednesday, September 5, 2018, Public Safety again hosted Security Awareness Day & Ride Your Bike to Campus Day for the Columbia community, on Low Plaza.

At this recurring event, Public Safety offers services to help our faculty, staff and students stay safe and secure

Summer is always a busy period for Facilities and Operations.  While construction occurs throughout the year, Facilities and Operations utilizes the summer months to complete a significant number of projects, many of which can only take place with the summer’s decreased campus population.  Students and faculty returning to campus for the fall semester will notice many improvements across the Morningside campus.

During the summer of 2018, Facilities and Operations began constructing a permanent accessibility ramp to the west side of Hamilton Hall, connecting College Walk and Lower Campus.  When completed, this permanent ramp will replace the temporary metal ramp that had been in place previously and improve access between residential and academic buildings.

Electric fleets, carpool and car share incentives, and bicycle-friendly amenities help Columbia earn top performer for transportation in the 2018 Sustainable Campus Index.

Columbia Facilities and Operations donated 51 unused and gently used stoves and ovens to several local organizations as part of Sustainable Columbia’s ReUse program. The combo gas stove/oven units became available as part of the gas to electric conversion that is taking place at the East Campus residence hall.

Our partners at Public Safety are here to help with bike registration, tune-ups and safety tips for the Columbia community—it's time again for Security Awareness Day & Ride Your Bike to Campus Day!

With the end of both the Academic and Fiscal years, we understand that many of our colleagues may be considering or already planning to undertake a capital renovation or improvement project in the coming year that will require support from the Planning & Capital Project Management (CPM) team.

While we currently are hard at work on our portfolio of Summer 2018 projects, we are already thinking ahead to next year. So if a renovation project is part of your plans, it’s never too soon to notify us, particularly if your project is time-sensitive or if the construction phase of the project must occur during the summer months when the campus is less active.

The best way to inform us about your plans is to submit an online Project Request. Visit http://facilities.columbia.edu and log in with your UNI and password to “Initiate a New Construction or Renovation Project.” You will be asked to identify the purpose and need of the project, proposed space or location, the project funding source, desired schedule, special requirements or considerations, and a general scope of work.

e’s BAR, an upscale, casual bar and restaurant, has signed a lease with Columbia University to open a second location in Morningside Heights, joining its original Upper West Side location.
