Facilities and Operations would like to remind you that you can help save energy and prevent loss or damage of your property should you be away from campus or home during break and throughout the winter. 

The Columbia Facilities and Operations-led CU Grow Vendor Development program graduated its fifth cohort of participants – comprised of 17 businesses that include architecture firms, interior design, electrical, construction safety management, painting, fireproofing experts, and more – during a virtual graduation ceremony on December 16.

Fitwel®’s three-star rating, its highest, recognizes the building’s extensive features that cultivate physical, mental, and social health of occupants as well as overall sustainability. 

Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUFO) joined with its partners to deliver 150 pre-packed Thanksgiving meals on November 24 to local senior homes in Harlem including the Canaan Senior Center, Beatrice Lewis Senior Center, Central Harlem Senior Citizens, St. Nicholas Houses, Riverstone Senior Center, and ARC XVI.

  

The CU Grow Vendor Development program, one of many initiatives led by the CUFO group supporting the University’s comprehensive commitment to create and expand opportunities for minority-, women-, and locally-owned businesses (MWL), is recruiting for Cohort 6 which begins in February 2022.

Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUFO) has much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season. Over the past few months, each team member in CUFO has been put to the test as the organization worked collectively to prepare the Columbia community for a successful and safe return to full occupancy on campus this fall term.

After more than a year hiatus due to Covid-19, “Clean + Go Green” is back at the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses on Thursday, December 2 and Friday, December 3. We will make large bins available across campus, at no cost to you, for the recycling, reuse or proper disposal of large unwanted items. Some drop off and donation locations are different than past years due to the presence of other tents on campus, so please review the locations carefully.

Columbia University recently donated bikes, yoga mats and bean bag chairs to Teaching a Generation – Youth Program (T.A.G), part of The Community Initiatives in Harlem, a nonprofit providing outreach support and services to individuals in the local community. 

With four ways to submit a request for maintenance or custodial support – text, email, phone or online service request form – the Facilities Services Center has never been easier to contact.

Facilities and Operations has created a new website to serve as a central resource for the planning, design, and construction of new and renovated spaces at Columbia’s Morningside and Manhattanville campuses and Baker Athletics Complex. 

Sixty-six students from two New York City high schools, Bronx Design & Construction Academy and Urban Assembly Gateway School for Technology, spent their summer creating solutions for recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce as part of the University Facilities and Operations summer internship program.

The CU Grow Vendor Development program hosted its fourth and final procurement event of 2021, bringing together the program’s current 19 participating firms and alumni of the program to meet with project managers and procurement representatives from Columbia Facilities & Operations and partner organizations to discuss potential contracting opportunities and MWBE resources.   

On Thursday, September 23, 2021, 10 women who work for the University’s Facilities and Operations team were recognized at the Women Builders Council (WBC) 16th Annual Champion Awards Red Tie Reception for being Outstanding Women in Construction with invaluable contributions throughout their careers and the Next Generation of Women Builders with an early promise in the construction industry.
