Columbia University has been selected as a Clean Air NY Campus Partner, an honor given to institutions of higher education who go above and beyond to encourage and facilitate their communities to carpool, take public transit, bike, or walk to campus.

Third new building at the Manhattanville campus to be awarded LEED Gold

Columbia University’s Manhattanville campus has been awarded the 2019 Urban Land Institute New York (ULI NY) Award for Excellence in Institutional Development, a statewide competition recognizing projects that demonstrate commitment to planning, design, sustainability, and community impact.

During this year’s spring break, Facilities and Operations performed a significant amount of projects across the University, many that could only have been completed when the campus is less populated.

Spring Recess is a time for Columbia students to take a much-needed break from classes, studying, and campus activities. For Columbia Dining staff, it’s a chance to step away from their normally bustling operations and work together on new menus and cooking techniques.

For the second year running, Columbia University will observe Earth Hour on Saturday, March 30 at 8:30 p.m. along with other universities, cities, and businesses in more than 180 countries worldwide.

Columbia University’s Manhattanville campus was honored with the 2019 Sustainable Construction Award at the New York Build Expo that took place on March 12 at the Javits Center.   The award was received by Lendlease, a construction management firm on the project, in recognition of the sustainable construction techniques employed when building the Jerome L. Greene Science Center, Lenfest Center for the Arts and Central Energy Plant. 

Columbia University achieved Climate Registered™ status by measuring its carbon footprint according to The Climate Registry’s (TCR) best-in-class program, then having it third-party verified and publicly reporting the data on TCR’s website.

New cooling towers were loaded onto the roof of the Jerome L. Greene Science Center as part of an ongoing expansion of the Manhattanville Central Energy Plant, a facility that provides chilled water, high pressure steam, and electric power across the new campus.

For the third time in a row, Columbia University has earned a STARS Gold rating in recognition of its sustainability achievements from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).

Dear Mama Coffee, a Harlem-based espresso, cocktail, wine bar and eatery, has opened a new location in the Jerome L. Greene Science Center at Columbia University’s new Manhattanville campus.
