Columbia University Wins IIDA Interior Design Award for Li Lu Law Library

Columbia University was recognized by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) with an Interior Design Award for the Li Lu Law Library in Jerome Greene Hall. 

Facilities and Operations Human Resources (CUFO HR), in collaboration with Columbia University HR, led its third cohort through a six-week leadership development program.  

The University has committed $33 million to bring modern elevators, widened escalators, and other improvements to the station.

Congratulations to all of the Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUFO) staff members who are graduating in 2026!  

Facilities and Operations is performing a number of projects across the Morningside campus over the summer, including improvements to grounds, residence halls, and more.

Columbia University was awarded LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for 600 W. 125th Street, a 34-story residential building for graduate students and faculty on the southwest corner of 125th Street and Broadway that opened in 2024.

The Columbia School of Professional Studies Construction Administration Program partnered with Columbia University Facilities and Operations and Balcony DAO, a leader in the Web3 Real Estate space, to host a symposium for cryptocurrency and decentralized finance (DeFi) at Columbia's Roone Arledge Auditorium during the week of the 2022 NFT 2.0 conference. The symposium focused on NFT’s and crypto-currency’s increased use in real estate and the built environment.

Columbia University retail tenant Trudy's Ice Cream opened their new location on 975 Columbus Ave. (at 108th Street) in June.

Senior Vice President of Columbia Health Dr. Melanie J. Bernitz was among the expert panelists at the Women Builders Council’s (WBC) AIM Leadership Forum, a two-day event held on June 16 and 17. The hybrid event consisted of a series of live and on-demand webinars and a national symposium that brought together engaging leaders from across the country to examine and develop a new blueprint for growing women in the construction industry.  

Clean + Go Green is back at the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses on Wednesday, July 13 through Friday, July 15.  Donate your unwanted items to create more space and help the environment.

Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism donated 58 sets of double lockers that were being replaced to Lincoln Hall, a Westchester-based non-profit boarding school for at-risk boys committed to helping youth and their families meet academic, behavioral, and employment goals.

Facilities and Operations helped bring Fauzia’s and its taste of the Caribbean to Columbia’a Manhattanville campus in 2020. The local food truck can be found on Wednesdays at 130th Street between Broadway and 12th Ave from 10:30-3:00 pm.

While many Columbians may look forward to the summer for a well-deserved break, Facilities and Operations eagerly anticipates it for a different reason - the opportunity to perform a wide range of projects across campus. 

Congratulations to eight of our Facilities and Operations colleagues who have successfully completed their degrees this academic year at schools and programs throughout Columbia while balancing the demands of a full-time job for their intellectual and professional development.

Departments across University Facilities and Operations kicked-off spring with some healthy competition, participating in a “Step into Spring: Digital Step Challenge” in partnership with Columbia’s Department of Work and Life from April 2 to April 22, with each participant choosing their own method of movement or exercise to help their team reach the finish line.  

Thanks to a generous donation made by University Trustee Shirley Wang BUS’93 and Walter Wang, the lounge has been transformed to a state-of-the-art e-gaming room for undergraduate students, set to officially open in Fall 2022. 

The CU Grow Vendor Development program hosted its first procurement event of 2022 on April 13th. The virtual event brought together the program’s current cohort of 21 minority-women- and locally owned (MWL) firms – the sixth cohort in the program’s history – with program alumni and project managers from Columbia University Facilities and Operations for a networking event to learn about upcoming business opportunities and resources available.
