Columbia University Wins IIDA Interior Design Award for Li Lu Law Library

Columbia University was recognized by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) with an Interior Design Award for the Li Lu Law Library in Jerome Greene Hall. 

Facilities and Operations Human Resources (CUFO HR), in collaboration with Columbia University HR, led its third cohort through a six-week leadership development program.  

The University has committed $33 million to bring modern elevators, widened escalators, and other improvements to the station.

Congratulations to all of the Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUFO) staff members who are graduating in 2026!  

Facilities and Operations is performing a number of projects across the Morningside campus over the summer, including improvements to grounds, residence halls, and more.

Columbia University was awarded LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for 600 W. 125th Street, a 34-story residential building for graduate students and faculty on the southwest corner of 125th Street and Broadway that opened in 2024.

From June 12 to July 2, CUFO will be hosting a move-a-thon in support of Columbia Community Services' Fight Against Hunger. Join us! 

The summer provides Facilities and Operations with an ideal opportunity to perform a significant amount of improvements on campus as some can only take place when the weather is warmer or the campus is less populated. As this summer is different from typical years, Facilities and Operations has planned work on a select number of projects to be less impactful to the relative increased level of activities taking place on campus this summer.

Columbia University recently donated new HP all-in-one printers to 25 non-profit organizations in Harlem and the surrounding community as part of Sustainable Columbia's ReUse Program.

Hex & Co., a board game café, has doubled in size after relocating to a new space two blocks north from their previous location in Morningside Heights.  The new location at 2911 Broadway (between W. 113th and 114th Streets) provides much needed space for Hex & Co to expand its dining, community programming, and private event offerings.

Congratulations to eight of our Facilities and Operations colleagues who have successfully completed their degrees this academic year at schools and programs throughout Columbia while balancing the demands of a full-time job for their intellectual and professional development. 

The plan provides a set of operational strategies and benchmarks, grounded in science, for Columbia to achieve its ambitious sustainability goals.

The CU Grow Vendor Development program hosted its first procurement event of 2021 on April 15, virtually bringing together the program’s fifth cohort of 21 minority-, women-, and locally owned (MWL) firms with program alumni and project managers from Columbia University Facilities and Operations.

Facilities and Operations is a proud participant in this year’s Fight Against Hunger in partnership with Columbia Community Service (CCS). 

Tanya Pope, Assistant Vice President of University Supplier Diversity, was among the expert moderators at the Women Builders Council’s (WBC) AIM (Act, Inspire, Motivate) Leadership Forum, a two-day event held on March 11 and 12 designed to integrate the needs of women in the construction industry at various stages in their careers and at all levels of leadership.

Sixty members of Public Safety were recognized for their perfect attendance or earning a promotion over the past year, receiving certificates from their supervisors in place of the annual Public Safety Promotion, Awards, and Recognition Ceremony which was postponed this year due to the pandemic. 

A new restaurant has signed a lease with Columbia University to open in the Morningside Heights neighborhood next year. 

Despite an unprecedented academic year, the departments within Columbia University Campus Services committed to providing above-and-beyond care. To make the transition to campus as smooth as possible, particularly for those students observing a travel or testing quarantine, Campus Services delivered key items to residence halls during Check-In and beginning period of each term.

Edward McArthur, vice president of Planning and Capital Project Management, was a featured speaker at “Design Changes in a Post-Pandemic World,” a virtual event hosted by Commercial Observer on January 19.

Dr. Michael McNeil, Chief of Administration for Columbia Health and Professor of Sociomedical Sciences at the Mailman School of Public Health, was included in a Healthline article about naloxone training during a pandemic, including how to find a training, and other ways to get involved.

Public Safety launched a monthly e-newsletter that will offer community members valuable safety, security, and crime prevention information along with information about comprehensive training programs and more.
