Columbia University Wins IIDA Interior Design Award for Li Lu Law Library

Columbia University was recognized by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) with an Interior Design Award for the Li Lu Law Library in Jerome Greene Hall. 

Facilities and Operations Human Resources (CUFO HR), in collaboration with Columbia University HR, led its third cohort through a six-week leadership development program.  

The University has committed $33 million to bring modern elevators, widened escalators, and other improvements to the station.

Congratulations to all of the Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUFO) staff members who are graduating in 2026!  

Facilities and Operations is performing a number of projects across the Morningside campus over the summer, including improvements to grounds, residence halls, and more.

Columbia University was awarded LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for 600 W. 125th Street, a 34-story residential building for graduate students and faculty on the southwest corner of 125th Street and Broadway that opened in 2024.

The United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship presented its Minority and Women Entrepreneurship Practitioner of the Year SIG Award to Tanya Pope, Assistant Vice President for University Supplier Diversity at Columbia, the highest recognition given to a practitioner that has demonstrated extraordinary work with minority and/or women's entrepreneurship programs or people.  

The Harlem Community Newspaper (HCN) profiled the Columbia University Facilities and Operations-led CU Grow Vendor Development Program, highlighting the program’s impact over the years in creating and expanding opportunities for Minority-, Women- and Locally owned businesses.

It takes many different people from different backgrounds to make research at Columbia possible.  As part of their illustrated series The Science Life, Columbia's Zuckerman Institute profiled Mike Haeser, Director of District Energy Systems for Manhattanville Operations, on how he empowers science research.

Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUFO) joined with its partners to deliver 150 pre-packed Thanksgiving meals on November 24 to local senior homes in Harlem including the Canaan Senior Center, Beatrice Lewis Senior Center, Central Harlem Senior Citizens, St. Nicholas Houses, Riverstone Senior Center, and ARC XVI.

  

Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUFO) has much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season. Over the past few months, each team member in CUFO has been put to the test as the organization worked collectively to prepare the Columbia community for a successful and safe return to full occupancy on campus this fall term. 

After more than a year hiatus due to Covid-19, “Clean + Go Green” is back at the Morningside and Manhattanville campuses on Thursday, December 2 and Friday, December 3. We will make large bins available across campus, at no cost to you, for the recycling, reuse or proper disposal of large unwanted items. Some drop off and donation locations are different than past years due to the presence of other tents on campus, so please review the locations carefully.

Columbia University recently donated bikes, yoga mats and bean bag chairs to Teaching a Generation – Youth Program (T.A.G), part of The Community Initiatives in Harlem, a nonprofit providing outreach support and services to individuals in the local community.

Facilities and Operations has created a new website to serve as a central resource for the planning, design, and construction of new and renovated spaces at Columbia’s Morningside and Manhattanville campuses and Baker Athletics Complex. 

Sixty-six students from two New York City high schools, Bronx Design & Construction Academy and Urban Assembly Gateway School for Technology, spent their summer creating solutions for recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce as part of the University Facilities and Operations summer internship program.

On Thursday, September 23, 2021, 10 women who work for the University’s Facilities and Operations team were recognized at the Women Builders Council (WBC) 16th Annual Champion Awards Red Tie Reception for being Outstanding Women in Construction with invaluable contributions throughout their careers and the Next Generation of Women Builders with an early promise in the construction industry.
